The Summer Museum Night – 21 June 2025

For the 23rd year in a row, the Summer Museum Night invites you to the pleasant surroundings of museums and galleries throughout Slovenia, where you will be accompanied by historical and art exhibitions, concerts, workshops, guided tours, walks through parks and gardens, board games and cycling tours. All events and exhibitions are free of charge. The Museum of Sports opens its doors at Plečnikov trg 1 in Ljubljana. You can see the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Sports and try out the Sports Quiz in a mental exercise.

Exhibition Collecting, Researching, Reviving: Sports Heritage and the Sports Museum
The exhibition shows the development of numerous fields, such as gymnastics, cycling, athletics, water sports, skating, skiing, mountaineering and climbing, and ball games. The museum’s objects and materials present the work of the Sports Museum to date, thus concisely showing the breadth of Slovenia’s rich sports heritage.

Sports Quiz with the Sports Museum
Participants learn about Slovenian sports heritage in a fun and interactive way – through a game and a quiz. They exercise their grey cells and explore the achievements of Slovenian top athletes, discover where their ancestors once swam, and learn about the fan paraphernalia that has accompanied sporting events through the decades. They learn about the sports that make up the all-around, and think about how technological developments affect sports equipment and the game itself.

In addition to the program of the Sports Museum, you can visit the permanent exhibition School Rules! for free at the Slovenian School Museum and experience one of the old lessons.

Permanent exhibition School Rules!
The interactive permanent exhibition School is Law! takes you through interesting facts from the history of education from prehistoric times to the present day with museum objects, documents, models and ambient installations. The basic concept of the exhibition is based on a large, long black school board, opposite which stands a long school desk. However, the board is not an ordinary school board, but rather, like a magic cabinet, hatches and drawers open from it, leading to numerous pieces of information and enticing stories.

Lessons
Sitting in an old school desk in front of a teacher or a student with a stern voice is a truly special experience. Teachers, dressed in the fashion of the past and with the obligatory stick in their hand, conjure up the atmosphere of a school in the past with their performance. We invite you to relive old educational methods and gain learning content from the past during live lessons.
