Cross-country Skiers of Ilirija, Sports Museum Photo Archive
The photo library holds an extensive collection of audio-visual and photographic material relating to the sporting heritage, stored in various media. The material is organised into archive groups, digitised, and thus permanently preserved and made available to the public. The photo library presents material that testifies to the most prominent Slovenian athletes and sports workers, sports organisations, clubs, associations, federations, sporting events, competitions and other events that are important for the history of sports practised by Slovenians and sports in Slovenia.
Digitalisation of the photo archive
Sports Museum’s Photo Archive in Full Swing!
In 2025, the Sports Museum undertook the digitisation of its photo archive with utmost dedication. We are systematically reviewing and organising materials from various collections, digitising them, and thereby ensuring their long-term preservation and accessibility for future generations. At present, the focus is on material related to basketball, one of Slovenia’s most successful and recognisable sports disciplines. In September, we are preparing the opening of a sectoral exhibition on the history of basketball, alongside the release of a themed digital collection.
The implementation of the digitalisation and archival organisation programme has been made possible through the co-funding of the Sports Foundation, for which we express our sincere gratitude.
