New Exhibition: Heritage Under the Hoops
We are pleased to announce the opening of the panel exhibition Heritage Under the Hoops, which will take place on September 26, 2025, at 5:00 PM, in the courtyard of the ŠD Tabor in Ljubljana. In addition to the exhibition itself, visitors can enjoy an engaging accompanying program featuring a roundtable discussion, workshops for children and youth, and interactive multimedia content. The exhibition will be on display until the end of October.
Modern basketball was conceived during the winter months of 1891/1892 as a way to stay active during the colder season. The sport was created by Canadian-American physical education professor James Naismith, who simply named the new game Basket Ball. By the end of the 19th century, the game had already spread to Europe and gradually found its way to the area of present-day Slovenia.
Heritage Under the Hoops offers visitors a brief journey through decades of basketball history in Slovenia. Photographs, documents, and artifacts showcase the rich diversity of basketball and aim to highlight all aspects of the game that make it so compelling. The exhibition also features some of the defining moments in Slovenian basketball history.
Join us and explore Heritage Under the Hoops—a legacy that continues to grow with every shot, every pass, and every cheer from the stands.
As part of the Sports Stories initiative, we have also prepared a special feature titled Basketball. Follow along and discover inspiring stories!
The exhibition has been made possible with the support of the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport.
Special thanks go to all athletes, sports professionals, and basketball clubs who shared materials and stories with us; to the Tabor Sports Association for hosting the event; and to the Basketball Federation of Slovenia for its collaboration on the accompanying program.
