Temporary Exhibition Heritage Under the Hoops

The National Liberation Museum Maribor and the Museum of Sport invite you to the opening of the temporary exhibition “Heritage Beneath the Basket”, which will take place on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, at 6 pm at the National Liberation Museum Maribor, Ulica heroja Tomšiča 5.

The Museum of Sport’s exhibition continues its journey around Slovenia. Following its presentation at the Regional Museum of Koper and as part of the 4th Ljubljana Sports Festival at Ilirija Sports Centre, it now moves to Maribor, where it will be on display until 11 November 2026.

The story of basketball in Slovenia goes beyond sporting achievements and medals won. It is a living heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation for decades. Its rhythm is shaped by the bounce of the ball and the squeak of trainers on the court, while its story is enriched by the many experiences of players, coaches, supporters and families who have helped shape this unique community. Today, Slovenian basketball proudly stands on the foundations laid by its pioneers, while new generations – from young hopefuls in school sports halls to elite players competing in leagues around the world – demonstrate that the heritage beneath the basket is alive and constantly evolving.
