Summary

The publication accompanies the sectoral exhibition Heritage Beneath the Hoop and offers a concise insight into decades of basketball heritage in Slovenia. Through a carefully selected range of photographs, documents and objects, it reveals the diversity of the sport and highlights the aspects that make basketball so appealing and distinctive.

In addition to a brief overview of the development of men’s and women’s basketball, the period of the Yugoslav league, the growth of the Slovenian national team, the School Basketball League, veterans’ basketball and wheelchair basketball, the publication also presents several key milestones of Slovenian basketball – from the organisation and world championship title of 1970, through KK Smelt Olimpija’s 1994 European Cup victory, and the hosting of EuroBasket 2013, to the historic European Championship title of 2017.

The publication thus illustrates how a rich heritage and remarkable achievements of Slovenian basketball have grown from modest beginnings.
