Planica’s Olympic spirit 1984

Sport has a rich tradition in the valley under Ponce, which we revived this time in the spirit of the Olympic Games in Sarajevo in 1984. At the Sports Museum, we want to raise awareness of the importance of sports in Slovenia to the wider public by collecting and displaying Slovenian sports heritage, and thereby preserve the spirit and values domestic and wider (sporting) past.

The exhibition, set up in front of the Planica Nordic Center, shows selected photographs by Nino Mihalek, who in a unique way and with a great deal of personal impressions captured in his camera lens the events and atmosphere of the Olympic Sarajevo and some sports industries. He captured the true Olympic spirit by walking around the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Nino Mihalek was the head of Sony’s expedition to test the new camera with and he had one of the highest media accreditations in Sarajevo.

Inside the center, there is an exhibition showing the rich events, impressions, memories and adventures experienced by workers from Planica, athletes in Nordic industries and other photojournalists at the “home” Olympic Games.

In the Planica Olympic Spirit 1984 column, we are publishing many museum sweets throughout this year, which we did not have the opportunity to present as part of the exhibition. You are invited to read our sports stories.
